Caring for America Projects

In the fall of each school year,  we give a student dictionary to each 3rd grade student in the Florence, Jarrell and Granger School Districts.
On September 17, in celebration of Liberty Day, we provide copies of the Constitution to every 5th grade student in the Florence and Jarrell school districts.  We also provide all teaching materials and lesson plans to the teachers.
At the end of each school year in May, every kindergarten student in the Florence and Jarrell School districts receives a book from GARW.

                                            Support for the Troops

Each week
, home-made cookies are taken to Ft. Hood for soldiers to enjoy as they arrive or leave. Contact Barbara Konetchy at 864-3624 to contribute cookies.
Personal items are collected and sent to the injured soldiers at Landstul Military Hospital.
Each year, specific groups of soldiers are the recipients of an annual project hosted by the Georgetown Republican Women. Donate to this project here.  Donate to the Ft. Hood USO at: http://affiliates.uso.org/forthood/

Helmet Liner Project:  GARW members knit helmet liners for troops serving in Afghanistan in the winter.  Click here for Knitting Instructions.

Audrey McDonald Scholarships for Young Women

Each year we provide three scholarships to deserving young women from local high schools. The 2012 GARW Scholarship Application is available.  Click here to download a copy in .PDF format.  To finance this project this year, a Fashion Show and Silent Auction were held at Reunion Ranch on September 21, 2011, with fashions provided by Sherri's The Rose Bud of Temple.

As Chairwoman of this event, I want to say a very big THANK YOU to all who participated with donations of door prizes and silent auction items, with purchase of an ad in our program book, with sponsorships and/or with monetary donations.  We made a profit in excess of $9000 which will enable us to award a $1500 scholarship to each of three deserving young ladies from each of our local high schools for the next two years.

Thank you so much, Carolyn Killebrew
